Since 2013, Nimble Fingers have been knitting and crocheting prayer cloths, prayer shawls, baby hats and blankets, chemo hats, etc. Beginning in 2015, we have been keeping a log of items we have given away. Virginia Jones has been our record keeper and shows that we have given away 490 prayer shawls/blankets/afghans. So far this year, we have given away 49 prayer shawls.
On Sunday, August 27, 2023, 19 prayer shawls, one chemo hat, 6 baby hats and 3 baby blankets were blessed by Pastor Pat Allin. The congregation joined in and placed hands on the items on the altar rail.
The group welcomes new members and has supplies to help a beginner or skilled knitters/crocheters get started on a project. Contact LaVonne Smith (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Virginia Jones (email@example.com) for more information, or come to any of the weekly informal work sessions held at 7 pm each Wednesday in the workroom across from Pastor Pat’s office in the education wing of the church. Invite friends!
Nimble Fingers recently made more than 100 red/white/blue pocket prayer cloths for distribution to Paxton UMC member veterans—and took a large box to the Danville VA center for distribution.
