Outreach

The outreach ministries of the church shall give attention to local and larger community ministries of compassion, justice, and advocacy. These ministries include church and society, global ministries, higher education and campus ministry, health and welfare, Christian unity and interreligious concerns, religion and race, and status and role of women. (The Book of Discipline, 2012)

As its title suggests, the Outreach Committee’s main focus is to look beyond the membership of the church to see those in need within the community. Need has been defined as the provision of physical necessities, advocacy for those treated unfairly, and work to influence governmental organizations to unsure that all receive just treatment.

Nimble Fingers

The Nimble Fingers knitting and crocheting group first met in February of 2013. Virginia Jones had the idea for starting this ministry, and the group continues to meet Wednesday evenings at 7:00 PM.

The group enjoys making items for the church family and for various needs in the community and surrounding areas. Some of the group’s work has even gone as far away as Afghanistan and India.

Lap robes, prayer shawls, blanket “throws,” baby blankets, and hats are the more common projects. The group has also made butterflies, jar openers, tree ornaments, dish cloths, lovey blankets, crosses and mini prayer cloths.

New members are always welcomed to learn to knit or crochet or to review previously learned skills. Materials are provided!
